Skyanalog P-1M
Skyanalog P1M capsule has a black aluminum housing, in which an Al stylus MC type motor with a Fineline diamond stylus profile has been installed. The collection needle has a 5x50um grind. The needle axis was placed at an angle of 20 degrees to the end of the bobbin body. The manufacturer recommends the 8.9g pill for light heavy arms, with an effective weight of 11-14g. The output voltage is 0.4 mV at a rate of 3.54 vm/s. The internal resistance of the pure copper crossover winding is 6.5 ohms, which should be terminated between 100 and 220 ohms per manufacturer’s recommendations. The pickup’s frequency response is accurate to +/-1dB between 20Hz and 20Khz, while channel separation is better than 30dB at 1Khz and channel balance is better than 0.5dB, which is an excellent value. The recommended needle pressure is 1.6 to 2.0 g, the recommended optimal value is 1.8 g.
The van’s break-in period is about 30 hours at an average temperature of 23 degrees. The pickup box also includes screws and an Allen key for easy installation.
Their sound is open, airy, flowing, yet pleasingly analog. Its full-bodied low-end doesn’t settle into the music, but at the same time follows the silky, well-articulated tonality of the midrange with appropriate rhythmicity. The high end is not especially bright, with an exaggerated character, but it has a sufficiently airy resolution, so that the jazz-acoustic genre is not a problem, as well as lighter pop-rock music.
Jack Leung, the founder of Skyanalog, developed an interest in building tube amplifiers at a very young age. He later attended South China University of Technology, where he graduated with a degree in electronic engineering. In the same year, he founded Skyanalog, which initially produced tube amplifiers. The company later transitioned to the analog sector, first as an OEM cartridge supplier to many well-known international brands (more than 20 brands and over 50 models) in 25 years of activity, also providing support for all MC cartridges, whether made by Skyanalog or other manufacturers.
The principle that inspired Jack Leung to design and build the Skyanalog cartridge line can be summarized in the belief that:
“Every detail counts,” with a focus on cartridge production based on three pillars: Precision Handmade, Top Quality, Reliable After Sale.
There are two main series in the current lineup: the P series, including models P1 and P2, and the G series, including models G1, G2, G3, and Reference.
Both the P and G series models use high-quality cantilevers, with boron being used even in the more affordable models (P1, P2, G1) and ruby and sapphire for the higher-performing ones (G2, G3, and Reference).
The weight of the P series models is 8.9 g. For the G series, it is 10 g, and for the Reference, it is 11 g. The internal impedance is 8 ohms for all models, except for the Reference, which has a value of 6 ohms. The output voltage is 0.4 mV for the P1, while all other models have an output of 3.5 mV. The frequency response within one dB (+/- 1 dB) varies depending on the model, ranging from 20 to 20,000 Hz for the P1, up to 25,000 Hz for the G series, and up to 30,000 Hz for the Reference.
